Rent the Porsche 911 Carrera and drive a modern classic, blending timeless design into a thoroughly modern package. This example is one of the lightest 991 vehicles around, increasing the nimbleness of an already potent sports car.
The 3.4L flat six delivers a respectable 350hp. The normally aspirated unit, a rarity in today’s sports cars, provides a sharp and a communicative response that leads to confidence in any corner. An essential 911 trait, the engine is located in the rear, providing great weight distribution during corner entry.
All power is routed through a PDK (dual clutch) transmission, which is one of the best units we’ve experienced. The transmission knows which gear to be in any situation, providing instantaneous downshifts (downshift 3 gears in milliseconds!) and smooth city driving. Performance wise, the transmission’s quick shifts help the 991 Carrera sprint to 60mph in a Porsche conservative 4.6 seconds.
The interior is comfortable, with supportive seats and a well laid out dashboard. The exhaust noise emitted in the cabin is completely natural without droning you’re your conversation. Subtle touches include specific 50th Anniversary emblems marking Porsche’s feat.
We recommend the Porsche 911 Carrera for any special occasion you have in mind. The car is brisk enough to take on Los Angeles back roads, yet supple enough to enjoy wine country in the San Francisco Bay Area.
